Fish are finned mysteries…

…inhabitants of another world. When mystery breaks the surface tension we’re suddenly connected to something we only guessed was there, linked to hope and wonder become real.

Fly fishing is a unique pursuit. Each outing is an episode of the ultimate reality show, much better really. You put some of the pieces in action, but you never know what will happen because you are not in control of much. Yep, it’s up to them, the fish, the weather, and the water. They don’t always operate the way we want or even the way we think they might.

The fact is – fly fishing is among the most difficult and rewarding of outdoor pursuits. Before you ever succeed, even once, you have to overcome nature and physics, display some artistry, know some entomology, and exhibit stealth. You have to solve riddles, see details, and execute with precision.

However, even with these challenges, fly fishing is accessible at the same time. Anyone can do it. But you must get out on the water. That’s where you will pay the price to master nature, physics, artistry, entomology, stealth, and solve the riddles and sometime you’ll get extremely lucky and it will all work out well.

The Bumpy Water blog celebrates the reasons, reality and rewards of this pursuit that requires much, yet gives so much more.

Look for bumpy water. Fish there.
